Inspiring Tango Method – Study Program

Inspiring Tango Method I

Anatomy of conscious movement

Anatomy of conscious movement for tango dance is the fundamental axis of this training, these contributions will be what enhance your dance and your way of teaching. The videos are dedicated to training our body with exercises specially created for tango and that have been inspired by different techniques and somatic disciplines to understand movement and biomechanics of the body. We will track each personal process, respecting individual times and exploring other modes of perception.. Guest teachers will provide us with tools from other disciplines and there will be a bibliographic corpus available to enrich learning.

Elements of the language of tango dance

Through deep and exhaustive work on the elements that make up the language of tango, we will analyze the intentional movement, structures, sequences, and dynamics of the dance. We will dedicate specific classes to the axis, the walk, intention, the embrace, disassociation, the basic, crosses, ochos, lateral steps, turns, lápiz, enrosques, entradas y sacadas, ganchos, giros, colgadas, dynamics and improvisation

Didactics - Tools and practices for teaching

We will work on all the knowledge acquired and the way to transmit it in teaching. As a final project, each participant will teach an open class with a specific topic. The objectives are:

  • Provide tools and strategies to develop a personal and creative way of transmitting and teaching.
  • Refine practical and facilitation skills.
  • Organize class material and resources to optimize teaching time.
  • Learn to plan and structure a class with the incorporated knowledge.
  • Share findings and experiences to enrich the material.
  • Learn to recognize and manage group dynamics and respond to the unexpected.
Musicality and orchestral styles

Together with specialized musicians, we will learn basic music theory for dancers. Through sensory perception and rhythmic exercises we will also work on the different rhythms (tango-milonga and waltz) and the differences in orchestral styles.

Inspiring Tango Method II

Elements of the milonga language. Rhythm and dynamics + Didactics – Teaching tools

Milonga is the mother of tango; its 2×4 rhythmic structure is still attributed to the tango rhythm. The speed of its cadence and tempo often generates fear in dancers. Training and understanding milonga opens up the possibilities of rhythmic play when dancing orchestral styles such as D’Arienzo, Biaggi, or Troilo. How do we teach milonga? How do we teach dancers to incorporate this rhythm into the body? This will be the fundamental goal of this module.

Elements of the vals language. Rhythm and dynamics + Didactics – Teaching tools

Vals is a dance style that, although danced using tango figures, possesses a unique cadence and essence that sets it apart. Fluidity and rhythmic mobility are fundamental in vals, distinguishing it from tango in terms of expression and dynamics.
Incorporating the teaching of vals alongside tango can be very beneficial for dancers, as it allows them to:

  • Expand their expressive possibilities and explore new ways of moving and connecting with the music.
  • Develop greater rhythmic awareness and the ability to adapt to different styles and cadences.
  • Enrich their experience on the dance floor, as vals can bring a new dimension of dynamics and circularity.
Teaching vals alongside tango can be an excellent way to encourage growth and diversity in the practice of social dance.
History of Tango Dance

Current tango is the result of a collective learning process in which the milonga and its protagonists kept this dance alive. Getting to know the first masters and dancers—their era and the way they developed their dance—will provide us with historical grounding and an evolutionary perspective. Through questionnaires and guides, we will analyze videos of the dancers and milongueros who have been part of the evolution of tango and who have inspired contemporary tango.
Learning to observe, to connect, to search for stylistic influences, and to discover their perspectives through our own eyes and bodies will be the great challenge.
